Adele Mara..............Born Adelaide Delgado in 1925 Spanish-American Adele Mara was a singer/dancer with Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra in Detroit by the age of 15. Cugat sent the gorgeous brunette, who had brown-eyed eyes, on a trip to New York. A Columbia talent scout was able to spot her, and signed her in 1942. Cugat was a part of a variety of brisk, unremarkable B movies with Tex Ritter including Vengeance of the West in 1942 and Alias B. Blackie in 1942, starring Chester Morris. She was transformed a few years later into a sexy platinum blonde pin-up when she was signed to Republic Studios. The studio was extremely busy Republic Studios. The roles she played were mainly women who fought cowboys in Roy Rogers (1945), Gene Autry (1947) in Twilight on the Rio Grande, and Bells of Rosarita. Angel in Exile from 1948 and Sands of Iwo Jima (both featuring Duke Wayne) are arguably two of the most memorable films she has ever done. The 1950s were a time when her opportunities were limited to show her talents as an actor. The Big Circus (1959) with Victor Mature, would be her last screen appearance. Adele later moved to TV in which she appeared in a variety of guest roles, predominantly in Westerns. The actress eventually settled down to start a family after her wedding to television business mogul Roy Huggins who produced many hit shows including 77 Sunset Strip (1958) as well as Maverick (1957). A lot of shows that she appeared in featured her as a special guest. The couple was blessed with three children. Huggins died in 2002.
